Soul Master Maxwell Appears on KCRW TOMORROW, May 13 for a Rare Interview
KCRW DJ Garth Trinidad will host the long awaited return of the soul icon at 9pm PST.

KCRW DJ Garth Trinidad will host the long-awaited return of soul icon Maxwell live this Wednesday, May 13 at 9pm PST. Expect classic Maxwell tunes along with an interview and some tracks from his forthcoming album “BLACKsummer’s Night.” This is Maxwell’s first appearance on the Santa Monica-based public radio station.  The session will air live on KCRW 89.9 FM and on KCRW.com.

“I’m interested – as I’m sure the audience is – in knowing why he took an eight year break from releasing new music,” said Trinidad. “His voice and the quality of his work – there are not many newer artists that can compare as far as sheer musicality is concerned. I’m looking forward to telling him about the value of who he is and what he means to the recording industry at this time.”

“BLACKsummers’night,” will be released on July 7, 2009. It is the first full-length Maxwell release since “Now,” his critically-acclaimed third studio album, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 in August 2001. Maxwell launched his career with the critically-acclaimed debut album, “Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite,” and went on to achieve 10 gold and platinum certifications from the RIAA for his albums and singles.

Just as Maxwell redefined classic soul music for a new generation, Garth Trinidad is considered the foremost curator of urban alternative music and culture. Trinidad currently returned to weeknights on KCRW — hosting from 8 to 10pm — and integrating a broader spectrum of music he feels passionate about. It’s his allegiance to discovering and exposing the best new music from across the globe that makes his name ring bells in the ears of true music aficionados from New York to Nairobi.
